Chlamydia is quite prevalent. Chlamydia trachomatis is the type that causes a sexually transmitted disease. The CDC reports that the rate of chlamydia in the US in 2011 was 457.6 cases per 100,000 population, and the prevalence rate was 1.5% in the US between 2005 and 2008 (see related link).
Not all types of chlamydia are transmitted by sex. Owners of birds, especially parrots, can also have a different type of chlamydia (Chlamydia psittaci) which is not sexually transmitted.

∙ 10y agoSince chlamydia is treatable and curable data would only be averages at a given time or group. However chlamydia is very very common. In 2011, the CDC reports that reported chlamydia cases in females were 648.9 per 100,000 population, and in men were 256.9 cases per 100,000. The CDC believes that this 2.5x difference reflects not so much fewer men infected, but fewer men tested and diagnosed. (see related link).
