1. 10%
2. It is quite hard to say as I do not think there has ever been any sort of study on this, whether national or worldwide based? But I tend to believe the estimate above of 10% is far far too low?
Because most people do not want to smell bad in public. We smell after sweating because of secreting trans-3-methyl-2-hexenoic acid due to decaying bacteria colonisation of such parts of us as our armpits, groins or feet. To stop that happening is the reason most people feel using deodorants is very important.
If you stink then you may lose friends or may be have no friends and/or may have serious problems at workplace, possibly even disciplinary action leading to you losing your job and wages, due complaints to management about you.
So I would guess that in developed nations at least 85%of the population on average use deodorants either regularly (perhaps once or twice every single day), or others more occasionally, such as only when it is hot and sticky, or else when they have some special event in their life such as "a date", or party or perhaps a job interview, when they want to make the right impression and so are keen or desperate not to smell.
But there are also some people who never use deodorants, or else very rarely use them. This in some cases because they are just lazy and dirty and do not care about their personal hygiene? Or in others they may have some valid reason for not using them, such as being concerned about the affect of the chemicals in the deodorant (like triccosan or alcohol), or finding having frequent showers or baths solves any problem , or finding perfume better or else it does seem there are people who do not have any problem about smelling unpleasant being drawn to their attention, so feel using deodorants is just unnecessary.
