Not all the residents of love canal died. Many were relocated eventually and many suffered a varity of different illnesses. I grew up near there. Know people that did live there and that do live there now that it has been revitalized.
While history does not say what each lot of the love canal site was before it became a dump site we do know: The area that the 1 mile of canal dug was to connect the Niagara river to Lake Ontario. The canal was not completed. It became a sort of man made lake that people used to swim in. The neighborhood around this was named Love Canal for this historic attempt. The unfinished Canal became a dumping ground for municipal waste then chemical waste and finally covered over and sold in 1953.
dump them and run They usually lose them when they do time or are killed by rivals.

Love Canal is a neighborhood of Niagara Falls, NY that was built on top of a toxic waste dump site. This site was closed in 1953 and grass slowly grew over it. When Niagara Falls started to boom economically in the 1960s they needed room for new schools. Local government insisted on building schools on top of the dump site even though they were warned of the dangers. Later on, homes were built around the same location, yet residents no longer knew about the toxic waste. In the 1970s reporters caught wind of what happened and started going from door to door to ask local residents about birth defects. A survey conducted by the Love Canal Homeowners Association found that 56% of the children born from 1974-1978 had at least one birth defect. Industries had dumped chemicals in the area's ground for years.
Love canal had nothing to do with nuclear, it was an old abandoned chemical waste dump for a nearby chemical company that had gone out of business several years earlier. A developer bought the land without properly checking on easements and built and sold houses there. The people living there started getting poisoned by small waste leaks where the dump had not been fully properly sealed. However easements should have prevented such construction in the first place.
