There was a civil war between the Native Cambodians and the Khmer Rouge Regime. The Khmer Rouge Regime began in 1975 and ended in 1979. It has been said the Vietnamese army help chase the Khmer Rouge out of Cambodia, however, they wanted to take over Cambodia's land. Also, the U.N also came and help the Native Cambodians out. The Khmer Rouge murdered and killed at least 3 million Cambodians. So, basically, Cambodians came to America because of genocide and war. Many Cambodians that came to America were sponsored by Americans.

In contrast, all government officials and Cambodians working in local or international NGOs interviewed reported reading Rasmey Kampuchea at least three times a week, with many reading it everyday. They live in Cambodia, but the Khmer Empire was vast and stretch over all of continental southeast asia, so essentially many have been mixed in with the other ethnic groups that inhabit the land today, such as the Thais, Vietnamese, Laos, and Burmese.

Because Khmer Rouge hated rich people, educated people. So they kill all Khmer people that work for government: singer,teacher,police officer.... then they try to gather other people that have just simple job to country side.
The Cambodians came to America to find peace and be free of persecution. Many of the Cambodians who came to America after the War in Vietnam were orphans adopted by United States citizens. Older Cambodians also came to find a new life.
