Steve Reich is known for his minimal music he has experimented with many musical concepts and has been writing darker contemporary pieces. He composes mainly for orchestras and smaller ensembles and is know for his unusual instrumentation.

He wrote 5 piano concerti aswell as 2 piano concerti during his youth, one violin concerto which he later transcribed for piano and orchestra and he composed one 'triple' concerto for piano, violin and cello. He wrote a number of pieces for solo instrument and orchestra and an oboe concerto which was lost by publishers in the 1840's.
Answer: He composed 1,300 by the end of his life. He wrote 400 original pieces and 900 arrangements of other composers' pieces.
Tchaikovsky played the piano, and could play all of his own piano music and many pieces by other composers. His favorite composer was Mozart.
