My 6 yr old son asked this question this morning, so it was a good learning opportunity to do some math. The recommended serving size for a serving of Cap'n Crunch is 1 cup (38g), so we measured out a cup of regular Cap'n Crunch (i.e. not peanutbutter or crunchberries), and counted. We came up with 241** pieces in a cup. As noted above, this is 38g so we come up with 6.34 pieces per gram (241pieces / 38 grams). So since our particular box is 398g, we can estimate 2,523 pieces per box (6.34 x 398). Obviously you have a different size box you would adjust the total number of grams. ** for the purposes of counting pieces, if it there were broken pieces we counted it if it was more than 50% the size of a full piece and didn't count it if it was smaller.
