First, it should be understood that the gallon of gas will not create any carbon. All the carbon due to the gallon of gas is already there, in and part of the gas(oline). It amounts to about 12/14 of the gasoline, so the carbon content of a gallon of gasoline is 12/14 of 6.2 lb (wt of a gallon of gasoline), or about 5.3 lb of carbon. It will still be 5.3 lb of carbon even if you burn it, since matter is not destroyed in a chemical reaction.

If the question is how much carbon dioxide, the simplest answer is that there is about 3.2 times as much carbon dioxide produced in burning alkanes (like octane) as the weight of the alkane.

A gallon of gas weighs about 6.2 lb and will combine with oxygen to make about 3.2x6.2 or 20 lb of CO2.

A gallon of gasoline, which weighs 6.2 lbs, produces 20 lbs of carbon dioxide when it is burned! The extra weight comes from the oxygen.

About 19.4 lbs of carbon dioxide from one gallon of gasoline.

A petrol (gasoline) engine will produce around 2.32 kg of carbon dioxide for each litre of petrol consumed (19.4 lb/gal).

What is the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by burning one gallon of gasoline?

The answer is "8.8 kgs or 19.4 pounds of CO2 emissions by burning a gallon of gasoline". The answer and its detailed calculation can be found at http://www.epa.gov/otaq/climate/420f05001.htm. You can also find the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by burning one gallon of diesel on this same web page.

How much carbon dioxide is emitted by burning one pound of coal?

Burning one pound of carbon releases about 3.6 pounds of carbon dioxide (the extra weight comes from oxygen from the air).

What is the chemical emitted by fuels?

Fossil fuels release by burning carbon dioxide and water.

How are carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide emitted?

The principle ways carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are emitted is from the burning of fossil fuels. This can be in coal burning to produce electricity. The burning of gasoline and diesel in automobiles and trucks also produces carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Aviation in all its forms burns Jet Kerosene which is also a major source. Respiration in living things such animals and humans etc, produces carbon dioxide but NOT carbon monoxide in any appreciable quantity.

What is the amount of carbon monoxide emitted by burning one gallon of gasoline?

19 pounds

What greenhouse gases do you get from burning diesel fuel?

The main greenhouse gas emitted from burning diesel, a fossil fuel, is carbon dioxide (CO2).

What kind of gases is emitted from LPG gas while burning?

The burning of any fossil fuels emits carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.

Why is the increase of atmospheric carbon dioxide less than the amount of carbon dioxide emissions produced by burning of fossil fuels?

Because trees consume carbon dioxide and produce oxygen.

What are carbon credits?

Carbon credits as defined by Kyoto protocol are one metric ton of carbon emitted by the burning of fossil fuels.

Is CO2 emitted by incandescent bulb?

No, carbon dioxide is not emitted by an incandescent lamp.

Burning coal produces which gas?

Burning coal in complete combustion of oxygen produces carbon-dioxide where as burning coal in limted amount of oxygen produces carbon-monoxide.

What increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere acting as a carbon dioxide?

Burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) and deforestation increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Respiration and other aspects of the carbon cycle do not increase the amount as a similar volume is being removed at the same time.
