∙ 11y agoMany passages in the Old Testament have also been taken as references to Jesus, but even so are not about a Messiah. Matthew's Gospel seeks to show thatIsaiah 7:14 prophesied Jesus' birth. This passagedoes say: "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, avirginshall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel," but only in the Septuagint, a flawed early Greek translation of the Hebrew scriptures. WhatIsaiah 7:14 says in the Hebrew original is,"
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold,
the young woman shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel
."(She did, just a few verses later in the Book of Isaiah.) Unless prophecies are to be based on faulty translations, there was no prophecy of a virgin birth,
and in any caseno mention of a Messiah or of Jesus himself.
