If you are referring to an auto transmission convertor, they are obviously all different, according to make of car. Most convertors hold 2 - 4 quarts of trans fluid.
I have an 81 with a 350 and I'm pretty sure from empty it takes 10 and 1/2 quarts.
The transmission holds 8.6 quarts total including the torque converter. A fluid change takes about 5 quarts. Use the dipstick to avoid over filling.
Turbo 350 takes 10-11quarts of fluid, variation depends on the converter size.
7 1/2 quarts
A C6 transmission including the torque converter will take 12.5 quarts.
The number in your user manual (14 quarts for 40R70W) transmission is for the transmission and torque converter If you just drain the pan and replace the filter it takes 4-5 quarts to fill back up.
If the torque converter is empty it takes 5, if you dont know put a couple quarts in start your vehicle and while its running check it. Hope this helps.
8 quarts with converter, four quarts just replacing filter
3 quarts 24 ounces to fill with out the tork converter Patrick
10 1/2 to 11 quarts
In the pan about 4 quarts, 4-5 more in the torque converter.
It's 13 quarts including the torque converter.
