Each state has two US Senators. Representatives in the House of Representatives are apportioned by population, and this changes every ten years after the Census results are calculated. There are 435 in total, along with 6 non-voting delegates representing the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and other US territories.

The U.S. Constitution provides for proportional representation in the U.S. House of Representatives. The number of representatives allocated to each of the 50 states is based on population as measured by the U.S. Census. Alaska, Delaware Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Vermont are the states that have only one representative in the House or Representatives.
