If healthcare bill is passed. Is it possible to be repealed if republicans can take over the house and senate in Nov. 2010?
There are 100 United States Senators. A majority of the Sentate is needed for a bill to be passed. However, if there is a filibuster, then it requires 60 votes to overcome the filibuster, and then it takes a majority of the Senate to pass a bill.
in the year of 2014
Depends on the bill. But most of the time, it does take a while for the bill to be passed. Some can go threw faster than others.
The Fifteenth Amendment became part of the Constitution on February 3rd, 1870.
After the stock market plummeted after they rejected it the first time, there was more political pressure on them to take action the second time around. There were also "improvements" made to the bill which made it easier to stomach for some House members. When the House of Representatives voted down the bill on Monday September 29th, the US Stock Market collapsed, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average declining 780 points. This decline scared many representatives because they did not take the warnings from the administration seriously. The market reaction and the subsequent reaction from many individuals who lost over $1 trillion dollars in one day, convinced many who had voted against the bill to change their mind.
veto a bill passed by congress
Well, A bill is passed by... First, a bill is introduced by either the house or the senate. Then, they have committee hearings. Next they take floor action. then if the bill is passed to the house or passed on they have more committee hearings then floor action, then it depends. If the bill is passed with amendments than it goes back to the house that passed the bill. If the bill is passed without amendments than the bill goes straight to the Governor. If the bill was passed with amendments the after the house that passed the bill had it then it goes to the Governor and if it is not vetoed than it will become a law on the first of the next year. Same with the bill that was passed with no amendments. If this was confusing then there is diagram on a website that is more understandable. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/bil2lawd.HTML Here is the answer, 12 year old B.erdman
The committee, after a vote, may: recommend that the bill be passed-or passed as amended-and send it directly to the Senate or House fl oor; recommend that the bill be passed-or passed as amended-and be placed on the Consent Calendar; approve the bill and send it on to another committee for further discussion; send the bill to the fl oor or another committee without a recommendation for passage; keep it in committee indefi nitely; or simply defeat it.
Passing a bill in the House of Representatives requires a simple majority. To get through the Senate, there must be a two-thirds majority.
People have been saying 2/3 vote, but that's not the answer to the question. honestly, I don't know! I've been trying to figure out the same thing!
