No President Bush actually ignored rescuers that had helped during 9/11 until they pushed enough to get media coverage. There has been a large rate of cancer victims regarding the rescuers (including civilians that helped) from the smoke, dust and other toxins from the Twin Tower disaster. Many of the people have died of cancer and are continuing to die. They are being paid, but it will run out in 2009 and there is no word from President Bush that he will continue on with paying the high medical costs these families have to endure (including the many funerals rescue workers and their families have had to attend.)
