However, Mercury's orbit of the Sun takes just 88 Earth days, and the result is that the solar day (sunrise to sunrise) on Mercury is much longer. In fact, it is 176 Earth days, or twice the length of the year. The counterclockwise movement around the Sun is in the same direction as the planet turns, preventing the normal rotational day.
