In May 12, 2005 a US District Court Judge ruled that Nebraska's ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional, but that ruling was overturned on July 14, 2006 by the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit. No same-sex couples were able to legally marry in Nebraska during that 14-month period, since the lower court's decision was stayed pending the outcome of the appeal.
