The FBI calculates active serial killers to be close to a thousand in the United States but it is still highly unlikely that you will ever encounter an active serial killer. They go for prostitutes and homeless most of the time. In the related links box below, I posted an article that you should read in case you need it.

//The estimate for active serial killers according to FBI statistics is between 25-50 at any given time. And while it is true that prostitutes make easy targets, there are just as many who target other types of victims. Examples of this:Ted Bundy liked pretty, brunette co-eds, Edmund Kemper (with the exception of his own family members) liked young college girls also, Jeffrey Dahmer picked young men with dark complextions, Danny Rolling killed both male and female young adults, John Wayne Gacy killed white young men and boys, Dean Corll chose young men, BTK killed both sexes of different ages but the focus was on young girls and women, Son of Sam David Berkowitz liked white middle-class couples (male/female), Wayne Williams liked black young boys and men (with one or two young girls), Richard Ramirez liked to sneak into the homes of the middle-class killing both sexes, Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka aka Ken and Barbie killers picked teenaged school girls including one of Karla's sisters, Aileen Wuornos picked middle-aged men, the Zodiac (original) killed mostly young couples, and Harold Shipmen, a doctor from Great Britian, killed an estimated 200 elderly patients after they gave Shipman executor status of their newly signed wills.

As for the state of Pennsylvania, there are of course unsolved homicides but they are unrelated. That doesn't mean there is not a killer on the loose but many times police don't recognize this type of killer for quite a while. This type of killer can be very crafty in their ability to avoid detection and stay at least a step in ahead of the law.

The very nature of serial murder makes it difficult if not impossible to guage unless it is very obvious. The killers that are considered 'organized' make few mistakes, especially in the begining. There are unsolved murders in Pennsylvania just like everywhere else but none were linked together. So it does not appear that the great state of Pennsylvania is in the midst of serial murder at present.

No statistical source is available at the current time. I am very sorry not to inform you how many serial killers there are in PA. I think that there are serial killers throughout the USA, but there is no way to get information about this issue. Serial killers are always psychopath, paranoid people, and unfortunately none can tell if a certain individual is a serial killer. But dont worry, you are not the target of any serial killer.

This question is almost impossible to answer with any accuracy at all. Many times serial murders will not be linked positively, speculation remains non-fact. As far as I know there are at present no serial killers loose in PA. This does not mean that there is not one, just that it is not suspected or has not been made public knowledge for one reason or another.

Juan Covington shot three victims in Philadelphia, PA, between the years 1998-2005.

Timothy Krajcir killed nine women in Missouri, Illinios and Pennsylvania. Harvey Miguel Robinson killed 3 women in Allentown, PA, in 1992-93. The 'Frankford Slasher' is suspected of 9 murders near Frankford, PA.

*Note of interest:Ted Bundy lived the first years of his life in Pennsyvania before later moving to Washington state.

In PA seems that a serial is on the loose. But it could be two working separately. A marine was murdered about 5 years ago as well as a female young teen and a black male teen. This goes with disappearances a few persons. None of the victims were not prostitutes or drunks.
