some have none, especially newer smaller laptops that only have a few usb ports. althought a serial cable to usb connector usually works, the connection is laggier. most computers have one, maybe two. unless you are running multiple devices, one is all you need. this is in reference to a nine pin serial cable. most have a 20pin serial port for visual in/out, but this is not related to a com port. serial ports are identified as COM, usually COM1 or COM3 but each port can only be used by one thing at a time.
i know very little about computer anatomy, so while i know this is partially right, someone should add correct me if i am wrong
serial ports are not in use any more, the new standard is usb
Serial and USB ports are most often used to connect an external modem to a PC.
Most modern laptops lack any sort of "legacy" ports such as serial ports, let alone them having two. Some older laptops did have multiple serial ports, but there's little point in recommending one because there's no guarantee you could find one. There are options for adding serial ports to a laptop, such as a USB to serial adapter, or a PC card with additional serial ports.
Standard serial ports have either 5 pins or 25 pins. Although are also serial ports, USB and PS/2 ports do not obey this rule.
yes.. but printer and PC should have these ports..
what are the ports, cable and wires of the pc
Many modern laptops don't have a serial port at all. The most common serial ports on desktop computers were the old style of mouse ports that look like this picture: http://i32.tinypic.com/29vtir.jpg

give the difference between serial port and parallel port
The serial and parallel ports are slow, have limited expandability and don't carry their own charge of electricity.these ports work fine for connecting Printers, Mice and keyboards to PC but all these device will perform better if connected to a USB port
there is alot serial ata usb universal serial bus (help me add more if you know it)
In the past, both the serial and parallel port were the most common means of data transfer and communication used by PCs. Serial ports were used for devices such as modems, mice, and serial port printers. However, in newer PCs, both the serial and parallel ports have been replaced by the use of USB ports. You should only disable serial port(s) if you are absolutely certain that auxiliary devices such as modems; printers; mice; etc.. are USB based and that your PC has enough USB ports to accommodate all of your auxiliary devices. Note: If at some point in the immediate future, you plan to sell your PC, it might be wise to leave the serial port as is.
