Irvin McDowell was a Brig. Gen. of the Union Troops in the Civil War. He led Union troops to battle at Manassas (or Bull Run). McDowell led his troops into the First and Second Battles of Bull Run. Johnston, and retreated, leaving many weapons on the ground which the Confederates gleefully took home.
