All cubes have six faces, including Rubik's cubes.

Each face on a Rubik's cube is divided into 9 squares. There are 54 individual squares on a Rubik's cube (9 * 6).

The Rubik's cube has 26 unique "parts" for lack of a better word.

How many parts? Let us study an average 3x3x3 D.I.Y kit that you can buy on the internet:

Core x 1

Screws x6

Washers x 6 (can have 2 lots of these)

Centre cubies x 6

Centre cubie caps x 6

Corner cubies x 6 (often made of 2 parts)

Edge Cubies x 6 (often made in 2 parts)

So if you are looking at an average D.I.Y cube, then they can have anywhere between 37 and 55 parts depending on the type, not including stickers.

Generally, store-bought Rubik's cubes have 26 single-cast cubies, 6 centre cubie caps a core and 6 rivets, so.....38 parts?

There are 26 squares but the middle square on each side is connected so they are just 1 piece, that means there are 21 pieces in a Rubik's cube. You can obviously never cheat by taking a Rubik's cube apart and putting it back together in the correct order. Try it and count the pieces yourself. You can learn a lot by checking the related link.
