Advanced civilized countries have museums on a huge range of things that are not specific to the country. For example, there are museums in Britain and Germany with all kinds of artefacts from Ancient Greece. No country that I have visited is so narrow in outlook and so provincial as to limit its museums to things that happened on its territory. So I don't see anything odd in the fact that the U.S. has a Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC. Moreover, the U.S. has a significant Jewish community, and many Jews regard the Holocaust as part of their indentity.
