Depending on what game system you are using, you can make only one sim ( DS ), six sims ( sims castaway wii, the sims 2 pets PS2 ) or 8 sims ( the sims 2 PC ).
Sorry I do not know more about other game systems. I only have played the sims on DS, WII, PS2 and PC.
