How many smokers die per year?
About 400,000 smokers in the United States die each year.
But 3,000 NONsmokers die each year from inhaling the smoke.
Everybody dies. Smokers die from an illness that can be related to smoking about half the time. Estimates of how much sooner they die vary somewhat but usually are on the order of about 7 minutes per cigarette. That translates roughly into dying 3 days sooner for every month that you smoke a pack of cigarettes per day.
