Three main types.
DC = Direct current. Mostly from batteries / chemical cells.
AC = Alternating Current. Mostly from generators.
Static = From charged particles. Found in nature. Lightning, clothing, fibres etc.
Of these three types, the voltage can vary infinitely, depending on construction and use.
AC, from your home supply outlet, is a high voltage to enable it to do work, but is dangerous.
DC, from batteries is usually low voltage, for portable and hand use.
Using electronics, DC can be changed to AC and AC to DC.
Modern power supplies and chargers, take the AC domestic supply and turn it into lethal, high voltage DC, inside the device. This is then chopped up and reduced to a non-lethal, low voltage DC, (simulating a battery supply) for use in domestic electronics.
