Annapolis meeting was a convention of delegates of five states New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Virginia in 1786. They gathered to remove trade barriers put in place by individual states.
On September 11, 1786, the Annapolis Convention convened in Annapolis, Maryland, to address the issues of trade and commerce among the states under the Articles of Confederation. Delegates from five states attended the meeting, where they recognized the need for a stronger central government to resolve economic and political challenges. This gathering ultimately led to the calling of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia the following year, where the U.S. Constitution was drafted.
The meeting between Maryland and Virginia was called the Mount Vernon Conference. The main discussion was regarding commerce, fishing, and control of water navigation for their common borders.
The ratification of the articles of confederation occurred on March 1, 1781. The Annapolis Convention occurred on September 11, 1786.
