If you have the day care poketech app, then an egg will just appear. I would suggest riding up and down bicylce road for around 5,000 steps.
usually i did it and it hatched at 4054 steps
around 10000 steps
In PokeMon Platinum The Answer is 5301
In Pokemon Platinum it takes approx. 6613 +/- 30 steps.
It takes 7,680 Steps to hatch a Cranidos. And it hatches faster when you have a Pokemon with the ability Flame Body
I think it's a certain amount of steps you take in the game.

Depending on the Pokemon that you breed depends on how many steps if you go too serrebii.net you can look up the Pokemon that you are breeding and farther down the page you can find info on the steps

It takes 2719 steps to hatch the egg. It contains a togepi
it depends on the Pokemon inside of the egg. if it is a rarer Pokemon then a usual Pokemon (ex. bidoof) than it will take more steps to hatch the egg. these are on Pokemon platinum: starter eggs(chimchar, turtwig, piplup): 5,355 steps starly egg: 4,080 steps bidoof egg: 4,080 steps buizel egg: 5,355 steps eevee egg: 9,180 steps manaphy egg: 2,805 steps phione egg(manaphy+ ditto): 10,455 if you want to know how many steps it takes to hatch another Pokemon, go to: http://Pokemon.marriland.com/platinum/pokedex this website has the whole platinum pokedex, along with all the info available for every Pokemon in sinnoh. it also has access to the national pokecex, and the pokedexs of the other versions of Pokemon. it also has plenty more, along with pictures and video walkthroughs.
It' s faster than others, for me it hatched after 1457 steps.I got mine after 2480 steps, but it was more because i just had it on Pokemon platinum, i used action replay and not Pokemon ranger. -Michael K.mine was on platinum and it took exactly 2573 steps. -Emmy c.

Your Pokemon doesn't hatch in days, it hatches in steps. Your character in the game has a built in pedometer (counts steps) and depending on the Pokemon type, depends on how many steps it takes to hatch it. Hope that helped!
