I knit 6" squares often. I use double knitting yarn and 4mm needles. I cast on 40 stitches and knit 72 rows per square. The size will vary a little according to the yarn (I use up left over yarn) but the sizes come out close enough to 6" square.

If I cast on 5 stitches what does knit 3 yarn over knit 2 to 6 stitches mean I understand yarn over but not 2-6?
If you Cast On 5 stitches .. then knit 3 of the 5 that you just cast on .. then yarn over ( this will make a stitch) .. then knit the next 2 stitches .. you will have 6 stitches instead of 5 stitches you cast on because you yarned over one .. you just read it differently then they meant .. after the word knit 2 replace the word"to" with " then you will have" 6 ..
