Practical experience and a strong work ethic often play a more critical role in a chef's success than constant originality.

Wanting to become a certified chef? There are many options to choose from, including the prestigious Cordon Bleu school of Culinary Arts to simple Sous Chef training. Many chefs begin with on-the-job training, and therefore experience varies.

Alot will depend upon how detailed a chef you wish to be. To become a professional sous' chef or pastry chef, for example, will take about 11 weeks of training. However, to become a Grande Chef takes about 10 months! Not something to rush into, so make sure you want to do it before you try.

There is no education that is required for being a pastry chef. Many people consider bakery school to help a great deal, however.
