It is generally considered that three subspecies, the Caspian Tiger, the Javan Tiger, and the Balinese Tiger, all became extinct in the past century. There are the odd sightings, and surveys for information related to those are conducted. But it is "generally" agreed on, through out the scientific community, that all three are extinct. It needs to be understood, that it is always difficult to prove a negative or in other words, that "something does not exist". As the Ivory-billed Woodpecker so wonderfully proved. For more information, please see sites listed.

There are nine tiger subspecies, but three are extinct, leaving six remaining. These include the Bengal, Indo-Chinese, South China, Amur, Sumatran, and Malayan tigers, each with unique characteristics and habitats.
the extinct tigers: well if you count a sabertooth tiger then that would in total be 56 different kinds of extinct tiger :D Thanks The sabretooth cats were only distantly related to todays tigers, lions, and other big cats, the name "sabretooth tiger" is a misnomer. The extinct tiger subspecies are the Caspian, Javan, and Bali tigers.
All six tiger subspecies are endangered at present. The Bengal and Siberian subspecies have, however, shown slight increases in their populations lately.
There is only one tiger species, Panthera Tigris. There are however, six subspecies. Only one, the Bengal, is found in India. All tiger subspecies are endangered.
