Grieg worked on two operatic works, both to texts by Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. "Foran Sydens Kloster" (At the Cloister Gate), Op. 20, was composed as an operatic scene. A full-length Opera, "Olav Trygvason," Op. 50, was abandonded after three scenes when the librettist lost confidence in the project.
