However, Japan did build about 2,000 Type 95 light tanks and approximately 2,000 Type 97 medium tanks for the Imperial Army; other types of armor were produced, such as tankettes and the earlier Type 89, plus some up-gunned 75mm Type 97's; but the majority of Japanese tanks encountered by the Allies during WW2 were the Type 95's & 97's.
