Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Kerala, India. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary extends over the talukas of Thodupuzha and Udumpanchola in Idukki district. It is at a distance of about 40 Kms from Thodupuzha in Kerela, a place, which has contributed many well known personalities to the development of India as well as from where the famous river of Thodupuzha flows. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary, India is famous for Indian elephants, which are becoming extinct due to poaching and other factors that are causing the deaths of these elephants. Hence it is also called as the Idukki Elephant sanctuary. Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary, India has an area of about 77 sq. km. and is somewhat above the normal sea level. Its altitude ranges from 450m to 758m above sea level. Punnathur kotta (Annakotta) is a small place near Guruvayoor in Thrissur district of Kerala, south India. This place is famous for the Elephant Sanctuary. This place is only 3km from Guruvayoor temple where elephants are trained for temple purposes. Here right now more than 60 elephants are kept. All these elephants were offered by devotees of Lord Guruvayurappa. Gajapooja (Worshipping Elephants) & Anayoottu (Feeding Elephants) are conducted here, as an offering to Lord Ganesha. The Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve is situated high in the ranges of the Western Ghats, in south Indian state of Kerala - known as the God’s Own Country. Periyar wildlife sanctuary in Kerala has a scenic lake at the heart of the sanctuary. Formed with the building of a dam in 1895, this reservoir runs around the contours of the wooded hills, providing water to the local wildlife through out the year. Though Periyar Kerala is a Tiger Reserve, tourists visit this place to view the Indian elephants in the act of sprinkling water and playfulness by the Periyar lake.
