Updated AnswerIn Islam, worship has two wings:
  • First wing is the ritual worships: prayer, fasting, paying Zakat (specific compulsory charity type , and Pilgrimage.
    • Ritual prayers: five times a day (or more on voluntary basis)
    • fasting: during one month a year (month of Ramadan on Islamic Hijra Calendar) and other days on voluntary basis.
    • Zakat: charity on income to specific guides (for example on money savings, it is, as minimum, 2.5 % of the saved money, exceeding some minimum limit, that completes on Islamic year as saved)
    • Pilgrimage: once over life if his health, finance, and safety allow him.
  • Second wing is the good deeds and works that benefit the family, the relatives, society, and the environment. God does not appreciate fulfilling the first wing requirements if the second wing is not taken care of. Good deeds and works should be observed by Muslim in every moment of his day life and should be by faith that it is for sake of God and for seeking his satisfaction. These good deeds include, but not limited to:
    • giving charity to the poor
    • offering help to the helpless
    • paying respect and care to parents, especially when get old
    • being tender, helpful, and kind to your marriage partner, children, relatives, neighbors, friends, coworkers, and all people.
    • avoid excessive anger and keep smiling.
    • not terrifying the innocents
    • not spoiling the environment
    • doing work to your best standards and honestly

Offering prayer FIVE times a day is obligatory, essential and must for a Muslim. Apart from these obligatory prayers, a Muslim may offer Niwafil at any time. Many Muslims also offer Tahajjad (after mid-night-before dawn) prayer. Ishraq and Chashat prayers are also offered by some of the Muslims. There is no restriction on offering voluntary Niwafil.
