A limit of three (3) presents are allowed.
Merchants can submit notification stating that at least one check presented to them as payment has been presented twice and returned unpaid both times, or that the check was returned as closed account.
This depends on your bank's policy, but it is usually 3 times. At that point, the payee would have to resort to other legal means to recoup their money, such as filing a claim in small claims court.
Each time a check bounces there is a 30-40 dollar fee, so once is enough.
Most banks will limit the times an item will be charged back usually between 3-5 times. However, some banks will allow a check to go through processing as many times as the check is deposited. However, the bank that the check is drawn off of may decide to eventually close that account if this check goes through as a charge back too many times.

If you send a check and it is bad, the consequences are going to be different depending on what you are sending the check in for. If you are paying a credit card bill (using this example because you put the question in the credit and debit card category) the check would be returned to your bank unpaid. The company you are paying may try to represent the check one or two more times and each time, your bank will charge you an overdraft fee, usually $5 to $35. The company you are paying will also charge you a late fee, bounced check fee and reverse the payment credit. If you are not yet late on your bill, you can just send another check that is good, or a money order and call the vendor (credit card company) you are paying and they will usually reverse the fee for you one time if it never happened before. If your ultimate payment arrives more than 30 days late, it will be on your credit report for 7 years as a late payment. This does not apply for the gas company or phone, although the late fees will. You can also call the credit card company or vendor you are paying and ask them if they will take a check by phone for payment. You can give them your routing number and account number over the phone and hopefully pay in time to beat the bad check you wrote.
Electronic check payment processing offers several advantages to businesses, including faster transaction times, reduced risk of check fraud, and lower processing costs compared to traditional paper checks. It also provides convenience to customers who prefer to pay electronically, improving overall customer satisfaction.

Because in former times, your auto loan came with a payment booklet and in the booklet was a series of "notes", which were slips of paper that contained pertinent information about your auto loan that aided in the recording of said payment, that you sent in with your check for your loan payment. A similar term for a loan is a "promissory note" which is a signed debt or IOU.
Every time you bounce a check a fee is charged by the bank and there may be an additional fee by the business/person chashing the check so you don't want that check to go through more than once. Usually after the first rejection by the bank a person or business may try a second time, but not a third.
Do it multiple times, and check it with a calculator multiple times also
Many times a contractor will ask for an advance payment in construction before work can begin to make sure they will get paid. Advance payment might also be asked of the customer so that materials can be purchased.
