If you are trying to evolve PICHU into PIKACHU, I would advise catching one in a Luxury Ball and giving it the item Soothe Bell. This will help make it happy faster.
Different ways of making Pokemon happy:
- Leveling up
- Giving it a massage
- Using an item of healing on it
- Walking 265 steps with it in your party
- Using vitamins (Carbos, Zinc, Iron etc.) on it
However, these things can make your Pokemon sadder:
- Fainting
- Using bitter herbs (Revival Herb and Energy Root especially) on it.
Trading a Pokemon restores its happiness to neutral.
You can check how happy a Pokemon is with you by checking with the Footprint Man, who can be found east of Pastoria. If your PICHU gets a Footprint Ribbon because the Man thinks its opinion of you is so good, it should be ready to evolve.
