Only four times. The medal was created to honor "The Four Immortal Chaplains" who gave up their life jackets to others after the USAT Dorchester was torpedoed by the U-223 on 3 February 1943 off Newfoundland. All four were Army Lieutenants who went down with the ship.
The Silver Star Medal was awarded only for heroism in combat. In the medal hierarchy it ranks after the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross (or Navy Cross) which are also only given for heroism in combat and before the Bronze Star Medal (either a heroism or meritorius service medal). This is a high honor for any serviceman. Occasionally people will ask this question because they have a campaign ribbon or other decoration with small 1/4 inch stars attached that are either bronze or silver in color. These stars indicate the number of times the decoration was awarded or the number of campaign's the recipient participated in. A bronze star equals 1 and a silver star equals five bronze stars
The Medal of Honor is awarded by the President of the USA (Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces) in the name of the Congress. This is why it is sometimes referred to as "the Congressional Medal of Honor" in error,
The Newbery Medal has been awarded every year since 1922. So as of the 2008 medal, it has been awarded 87 times.
As many times as he can earn it. However, the Congressional Medal of Honor (CMOH) was never been awarded more than twice. The vast majority of CMOH recipients receive it posthumously (after death).
The Medal has been awarded to 295 Marines a total of 297 times.
It shows that the serviceman was awarded the Army Achievement Medal six times.
The bar means that it has been awarded multiple times.
In trackmania, the author times are not usually revealed. They are generally only slightly better times than the gold medal (usually within about 10 seconds). After you have the gold medal, keep racing on the track. If you get a good enough time, one that beats the author, you will be awarded the author medal.
One book a year can win the Newbery Medal. Up to 5 books a year can earn the Newbery Honor Award.
19 Medals of Honor winners were awarded the medal 2 times. 5 however were to U.S. Marines in WWI for the same action by the Army and Navy. After 1917 only 1 Medal of Honor per lifetime could be awarded. The other 14 were awarded for separate actions in the Civil War, Indian War, etc. The last double Medal or Honor winner was Smedley Darlington Butler. One in Mexico for actions on April 22, 1914 and the second in Haiti for actions on November 17, 1915. As a side note, Vietnam War Special Forces hero Robert L. Howard was submitted for the Medal of Honor three different times before he was finally awarded the Medal.
It probably means he earned a Bronze Star Medal. The medal was awarded to the soldier in a case that included three items: A bronze Star Medal, a ribbon and maybe a metallic version of the ribbon. The Bronze Star Medal was a medal in the shape of a STAR that was bronze. It hung from a ribbon that was mainly RED with a BLUE and WHITE strip. If awarded to the soldier, the STAR would have his name engraved on the back. If the ribbon has an Oak Leaf device or a small Star device or a brass "V" attached to the ribbon, this denotes a special recognition for the award. The Oak Leaf represents a second award of the Medal. The "V" recognizes the soldier for Valor.
The Purple Heart was authorized by the Confederation Congress during the American Revolution, and was awarded, I believe, seven times, and fell into disuse. The next authorized decoration was the Medal of Honor, during the Civil War. The Purple Heart was restored to use - I think in 1932 - and made the award to be given to men injured and wounded by enemy action. Its actually a lovely medal, and has a profile of General Washington on the heart, emblematic of its Revolutionary heritage.
