Sericulture is the process of cultivating silkworms and extracting silk from them. The caterpillars of the domestic silkmoth (also called ‘Bombyx Mori) are the most commonly used silkworm species in sericulture. Other types of silkworms (such as Eri, Muga, and Tasar) are also cultivated for the production of ‘wild silks’. An image detailing the different types of silkworms is provided below.

There are 4 silkworms that I have located in my enquiries are: (this is to the best of my knowledge and may not be entirely correct) 1. Bombyx mori L. feeds on Mulbery. It is the more common one that children raise. 2. Antheraea mylitta (Tasar or Tussah silkworm) feeds on Arjun and Asan and the Antheraea proyeli J (Oak Tassar) feeds on Oak 3. Philosamia ricini (Endi, Errandi or Eri Silkworm) feeds on Castor leaves 4. Antheraea assamensis (Muga Silkworm) feeds on the aromatic leaves of the Som and Soalu plants
