The Bible refers to "the heavens" in three different senses.

The first is what we call the "sky" (Deuteronomy 11:10; Job 35:5; Psalm 104:12).

The second is what we call "space" (1 Chronicles 27:23; Ezekiel 32:7; Mark 13:25).

The third is the dwelling place of God and His angels, sometimes referred to as being "above the heavens" (Psalm 2:4; Psalm 123:1; Acts 7:56; 2 Corinthians 12:2)

* God created one heaven and one earth.

* First century Christians believed that there were several heavens, most often seven. This is reflected in the epistles of Paul. So, if God created these heavens, he would have created at least seven.

The first century Christians seem to have believed in more than one heaven, most commonly seven heavens, although this is not specifically mentioned in the books of the New Testament. Some New Testament references are to one heaven, some talk of "the heavens". Paul (2 Corinthians 12:2) knew a man in Christ caught up to the third heaven. However, the reference in 2 Corinthians has also been interpreted as referring to Gnostic status, rather than the heavens above, on the possible assumption that the Apostle Paul was himself a Gnostic.

Another Answer:

The Bible speaks of 3 Heavens as follows:

1 - the atmosphere - see Genesis 7:11, 19

2- outer space - see Exodus 32:13, Nehemiah 9:6 and multiple others

3- Paradise or Throne of God - see 2 Corinthians 12:1-4 and compare Revelation 4:2 to discern.

there are 3 angels

a. Gabriel

b. Michael

c. Lucifer

Answer:

The three angels actually named are archangels, but the general number of them are too many to count. Apparently, there are as many angels as there are stars in the sky.

"...ye are come unto Mount Sion, and unto the city of the Living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an INNUMERABLE COMPANY OF ANGELS..." (Heb.12:22). There are only 4 named angels in the bible, the ones mentioned above and the one in Rev. 9:11 his name is Apollyon, or in the Greek, he known as Abaddon, he is the angel of the bottomless pit. These are the only 4 named angels in the King James version.

According to the bible there is only one angel ever mentioned who is called an archangel.

and that is Michael. all other angels are simply angels. they never once refer to Gabriel and Lucifer as archangels.

the term archangel means arch(cheif) and angel so the term archangel simply means chief angel and that is Michael

The main job of angels is to act as a transitional figure between the divine and humans. There are literally thousands upon millions of angels. They are not humans who have died and gone to heaven. They take on many forms, such as human forms, or appear in nature such as spiritual presence. The most commonly know angels in the Bible are the angel Gabriel, Michael, Raphael. Angels are God's administrators for the universe, the governance or the cosmos and human affairs. Ministering angels, the Cherubim and the Seraphim. They never leave heaven. They help God administer the universe. In some schemes they are called archangels. Remember the Seraphim in the Bible is beside God, saying,"holy, holy, holy, God, Lord. Almighty." over and over again. Guardian angels are assigned to protect people, there are billions upon billions of them according to scholars. Sometimes God can use you or me, to act as an angel, to be at a certain place or time to help or even save someone's life. The Bible says that," many have entertained angels without realizing it," The choirs of Angels according to scholars in order are: Seraphim, three pairs of wings that guard God's throne, Cherubim, angels with human or animal characteristics. Thrones, angels who bring justice. Dominions, angels who regulate life in heaven. Virtues, angels who work miracles. Powers, angels who protect humankind from demonic attack. Principalities, angels concerned with the welfare of nations. Archangels, considered the princes of angels, such as Michael, Gabriel, Raphael. Angels or guardian angels, messengers and guides for human beings. As you might imagine that God is the great architecture of the universe. Everything that He would do, would be like a great General providing a perfect plan for his beloved people, you and me!

Answer:

There are only four angels named in the bible, two good, Gabriel, and Micheal. And two evil Satan, and Abaddon. Oh and the angel of the Lord, unnamed. ( this could have been anyone of the four, so can be disregarded as a fifth angel)

However in Revelation we are told they numbered in the 100 million. So we can say there are a lot of angels, but strange why only four are named.

THERE IS A LOT MORE THEN 100 MILLION ANGELS the bible says that there are a multitude of angels for every human. there have been 100 billion people since creations which means there is a multitude more than that plus the angels that have never left heaven

Another Comment:

NEVER ONCE DO THEY REFER TO ANY ANGEL OTHER THAN MICHAEL AS AN ARCHANGEL

2 Corinthians 12:2: "I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. "

Some point out that the Third Heaven was a common Gnostic status, so the man of whom Paul spoke could have been a Gnostic Christian, in which case this need not have been a reference to three heavens at all. However, early Christians did believe that there were seven heavens.
