The modern versions will not work on DOS. The very early versions did, running through the windows environment before Windows became an operating system. These would be versions like Windows 3.1 or Windows 3.11 which you would have found on computers in the early 1990s.
There isn't actually any such product as Office Vista; Office 2007 was released at the same time as Vista so it is associated with it.Windows Vista is an operating system, Office is an application that, in principle, runs on several operating systems - you can buy Office to run on Apple OSX and Windows mobile as well as on regular Windows. Also, although Office 2007 is associated with Vista, it will run on older versions of Windows (for example, Windows XP).
Office XP, 2003, 2007 and 2010. Older ones may work, but are unsupported.

It is compatible. It only depends what type of file you save it as. If you are still having incompatibility problems, download the Compatibility Pack for Microsoft Office 2007 form Microsoft Downloads.
Any computer that has windows built in can run windows and open office. I have personally tried this before on my old computer, as it came with open office. So basically, any computer. Even a mac can be re-programmed by an expert to use the windows format, but it can't use mac tools. It would literally be a windows computer in a mac's body.
Microsoft released individual applications such as Word for the Mac in 1984 with the first Office suite for the Mac introduced in 1989. Versions for the Windows operating system followed later.
