All the soldiers involved in WW 1 worldwide numbered 65 million. Of those, 8.5 million were officially proclaimed 'killed'. Another 4 million were proclaimed 'missing in action'. If we assumed that these also were killed, the number of deaths comes to 12.5 million. That would leave 52.5 million veterans still alive after the war.
