I don't know the exact amount of people, but there are about 300 million people blind or visually impaired simply because they cannot get the glasses they need. When I was in college I took a class in special education and we experienced different disabilities. In one experience I lost my eyesight and found things very hard to do. Going up or down stairs was impossible, figuring out money and getting it out was hard, crossing a street( some places have a beep for blind people so they know when to cross, but this isn't everywhere) , some schools have textbooks read on tape and other items to help the visually impaired. While doing my student teaching I was assigned to the visually impaired class and taught myself basic Braille. There are many degrees of blindness and many causes.
