they hunt about 900 to 1500 every 3yrs
They have a certain number of whales they expect to kill, called a quota. I don't know the quota of every species, but they plan to kill about 60 endangered humpback whales in 2010. The quota for other species that are more common is unfortunately much higher.
next year =[ (2010)
Actually neither or the 2 sub species are endangered. The common minke is least concerned and the Antarctic Minke is Data deficient but suspected to be endangered if not at risk. Their natural predator is orcas when they feed on the young. Human activity of Whaling kill around 1,000 Minke whales every year for their blubber to sell in places like Iceland and Japan.
There are 2 sub species of the Minke Whale species. One being the antarctic Minke whale which only lives in Antarctic Ocean. Secondly, will have the Common Minke Whale which can life in every ocean.
Lo;;er Whales can be found in every ocean in the wild. They can be found in aquariums like sea world in captivity. In the wild, the prefer the cooler antarctic/ arctic conditions but they can be found in sub tropical environments.
Humpback whales migrate every year. This is similar to every other whales. They usually migrate to either the Arctic or Antarctic regions for food then migrate to around the equator where they breed.
About 7400 whales a year are killed, (not counting the coastal dolphins of Japan). That's about 20 a day, or one every 72 minutes.See the related question below.

The number of whales actually taken (poached) could exceed the number that was recorded.Over 1,500 whales are hunted every year. Commercial whaling has been banned since 1986. But whaling continues under false pretenses now call "Scientific Research". This kills hundreds of whales every year. Even the fishing industry has caught nearly 1,000 whales in fishing nets.
The killer whale, also considered a dolphin with the name orca, live in Antarctica. However, I do not recall where else they live.
