The wise men are often depicted riding on camels in the traditional Christian nativity story. These camels are believed to have carried the three wise men to visit baby Jesus after following the star.
We usually speak of three wise men or Magi but Scripture does not say how many there were. There were three gifts given by these men; gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Technically, we do not know how many wise men there were, we only know that there were three gifts of gold and frankincense, and myrrh. There could be a hundred wise men for all we know.
Where does the bible state that there were 3 wise men? Could have been 2 or 10--it doesn't say how many.
gold
AnswerMatthew's Gospel does not say how many wise men, or magi, went to Bethlehem, but traditionally there are portrayed as being three. However, John Shelby Spong (A Bishop Rethinks the Birth of Jesus) says that among people he knows in New Testament circles, the universal assumption is that the magi, or wise men, were not actual people. Bishop Spong is telling us that there were really no wise men, so from a historical point of view, that is the answer. But if you are planning a nativity scene, the usual number is three wise men.
well... if you can find a desert in england then you can count the number of wise men. Then again being wise men in england they probably wouldn't have chosen to live in one bit of desert so any men you do find in this imaginary english desert of yours are probly not very wise
Sages is French for wise men.
