How many studs in a wall that is 28' long 16 on center?

about 17 2x4 s If you have no windows or door openings and no partitions or corner framing you will need 13 studs and 3-16' 2x4's. How to figure this: Multiple the length of wall (16') by 12 (12" in a foot) and then divide by 16 (spacing 16") and add one for the end. 16x12=192 Divided by 16=12 + 1=13

What do the little red diamond markings on a tape measure or rule signify?

If the marks are at 16 inches, 32 inches, 48 inches, etcetera, those are the distances studs in a wall are supposed to be apart, measured from the center of one stud to the center of the next one. Wall studs are the vertical pieces of wood which the sheetrock is nailed to. I think the marks indicate 1/2 meter increments.

How do you install a pedestal sink securely to the wall in the bathroom if you are having trouble finding the studs in a plaster wall?

You've got to find the studs. The hot and cold water feeds have to be anchored with brackets to the studs somewhere. It would be nice to have studs, but you can use toggle bolts. The pedestal holds up the bowl. Pedestals are hard to install, though. I would call a plumber on this one. The purpose of a sink on a pedestal is normally twofold: One main one is to provide the support for it -- many models even are located far away from walls, even in the center of a room. (The sink bowl get connected to the pedestal, the pedestal to the ground). The other is for the pedestal to act as a cover for the plumbing. (Agreeably some made today are more decorative than functional). If you really need to secure anything to a wall using the studs (heavy mirrors a common example), and the studs are off-center, simply secure a strong piece of wood or metal (a bridge or cross-member) between the studs (external on wall is fine), and then place the thing anywhere you need to it.

How many 2x4s in a 3500 square foot house?

The number of 2x4's depends on a great number of variables. First of all, is it a one story house? Are the exterior walls made of studs? Even if the walls of the house are in fact stud walls - it is possible (perhaps probable) that they are 2x6 studs, not 2x4 studs. For the sake of example though, let's assume every wall in the house (inside and out) are composed of wood 2x4 studs. Generally they are spaced 16" apart. Thus, you would need to count the linear feet of wall in the house - then multiply that figure by 12 (to convert to inches), then divide that number by 16. There is more than just walls however. At the base of every wood stud wall is a continuous "bottom plate" of wood stud. If the studs are 10' long, then you would need to divide the linear feet of walls by 10. If the studs are 8' long, you would need to divide the linear feet of walls by 8, and so on. Similarly, at the top of every stud wall is a "top plate" which actually consist of TWO studs. So you would do the same as the bottom plate - but this time double your answer. Everywhere there is a door or window, these are framed out with 2x4s. So at every door and window you would need to see how wide they are, and add that length in stud. For windows you would need to do this at the top and the bottom. Studs are also used miscellaneously all throughout a building for framing. For example, if a handle at a handicap toilet is framed into a wall - this handle cannot be simply screwed into drywall - it needs a firm structure to hold it in place. Usually this done by adding 2x4 stud in the wall cavity where the handle will go. Similarly, where wall cabinets are hung, there is typically hidden studs in the wall to help hold these cabinets firmly in place. Wood studs are also used to frame up the roof structure, but these would likely never be 2x4 (something much larger such as 2x12). Hope this helps.

How does kit manufacturing attach the cabinets to the wall?

ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE USING THE CORRECT NAME "KIT"OF THE MANUFACTURING COMPANY?some cabinets are requested as custom built and the backs may be inset by as much as 3/4 inch to allow for a 3/4 inch wall brace which is anchored on the surface of the wall / and screwed into the studs which are under the wall surface or-- you can do it this way--........measure some 1 x 3 wood to match the width of your box and find the studs under the surface of the wall -- mount the wood pieces to the wall-- one on top and one on bottom and line up the box and screw the box from the inside to the braces you mounted on the wall and then buy some 1 1/2 inch moulding and brad nail the moulding around the box to cover the visible braces-- if you use nice (45 degree) cuts you may end up with a fairly professional looking cabinet mount job.

What are properties of drywall that make it good for covering wall in your house instead of wood?

The number one reason is: It provides a fire barrier to the structure. Although the outer layer of drywall is basically cardboard, the fire would take longer to get through the actual plaster material of the core to get to the wooden wall studs. It also provides a smoother surface to paint than regular panels of wood and allows the joints to be made basically invisible if done properly.

Does sound go through acoustic panels?

Yes. Acoustic panels are meant to reduce echoing, not stop sound for passing through. To stop sound from passing through, you need 1 of 3 things: 1. A wall that is heavy. conrete block walls are good for this. You can also use double layers of gypsum wallboard on each side of the wall. 2. Offset wall studs. Your side of the wall is on one set of studs, and the other side of the wall is on an entirely different set of studs. This way, there is no direct path for sound waves to pass through. 3. Mount the wallboard on both sides of the wall on spring clips. The spring clips prevent a direct transfer of sound through hard materials.

What are studs in football?

Studs are on the bottom of the cleats. Or they are the really good soccer players that are studs. :)

Can you make two bedrooms into one by cutting the opening in the wall or should you build a new supporting wall?

The ability to make two adjacent bedrooms into one by knocking down a wall depends on whether the wall is load bearing. Usually, the wall between two bedrooms is not load bearing, but it is possible that it is depending on the house. If you are unsure, then either look at your home's blueprint (plan) if your local authorities have it or if you are still unsure, hire a licensed engineer to determine whether the wall is load bearing. Even if the wall is not load bearing, it is a little more difficult to join the rooms than simply cutting a hole in the drywall. Behind the drywall there are studs which are either wood or metal. The studs need to be removed after the drywall is removed. Also there is most likely electrical wiring in the wall that needs to be removed and properly capped in the attic or crawl space. There may even be plumbing pipes in the wall which would require moving which is a major project in and of itself. Even after removing the drywall, studs, electrical wiring, and plumbing, there will be a gap in both the ceiling and the floor that needs to be addressed. To make a long story slightly shorter, while it is possible to join two adjacent rooms, it is a lot more involved than simply cutting down the drywall.
