Octavian Augustus (63 BCE - 14 CE) was the first Emperor of the Roman Empire. The nephew and heir of Julius Cesear, Octavian became a member of the 2nd Triumvirate following Ceasar's death in 44 BCE. The membership consisted of Marcus Lepidus, a Roman patrician and Marc Antony, one of Ceasar's lieutenants. After a civil war between the members of the Triumvirate, which saw Lepidus exiled and Antony killed, Octavian took power and began his rule on January 16th, 27 BCE. His reign would last until he died on August 19th, 14 CE. He ruled over Rome for 41 years and saw the creation of stable empire.
