This can only be an approximate answer because the dates are not known, but most scholars believe Jesus was born some time between 6 - 5 B.C. and do not know the year of his crucifixion, but think it was around 30 A.D.

If you take the year 5 B.C. for His birth and consider 27A.D., which many believe was the start of His ministry, then add 3 1/2 for the length of his ministry on to 27, this would bring us up to 30/31 A.D.

Rome destroyed Jerusalem and the temple in 70 A.D.

The approximate time between Jesus' death the the destruction of Jerusalem would be 39/40 years.
