I believe I've read that 16 Medals of Honor were earned by Americans during the Battle of Iwo Jima.
There were approx. 20000 Japanese combatants on Iowa Jima. They were concentrated in the many cave networks. Of these 20,000 only 1,083 survived the battle.
70,000 US servicemen and 22,000 Japanese soldiers fought on Iwo Jima. All the Japanese died and 26,000 Marines died.

There were many. Guam, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, etc. Try doing a search on the Internet or look it up in an encyclopedia. The Battle of Coral Sea was a key one. Guadalcanal was a long campaign and bloody. The battle for Okinawa was one of the last really big campaigns.
