80 years
Camels from what is now called Saudi Arabia went to Ethiopia as early as 1700 years ago. In today's world, the camel-caravans have been mostly replaced with trucks and ships.
Both Dromedary and Bactrian are species of camel. Dromedaries have one hump and are found in Northern Africa and one area of Australia. Bactrians are two humped camels native to central Asia. Unlike Dromedaries, Bactrian camels are critically endangered. Both species of camel have been domesticated although domesticated Dromedaries are much more common except in Asia where Bactrian camels have been a domesticated pack animal for thousands of years.
At one time there would have been a lot of use of camels in trade in Africa and the Middle East, before more modern forms of transport came into existence.
40 years, but camels with a healthy life may live longer
LLamas and vicunas are separate animals. They live in South America. Both of them have been domesticated for thousands of years by the local tribes. They are related to camels, but are not descended from them or from goats.
Africa is -not- a country, it is a continent.
camels have been outmodled because jeeps are faster and carry heavier loads
Camels originate from North America. The fossil evidence indicates that Camelops, the forerunner of the modern camel, appeared in the neighborhood of 2.5 million years ago. These animals have been gone from the Americas for 10,000 years, but their kin had migrated to Asia and then Africa, where they survive today. These are the true camels, the Dromedary and Bactrian. We also know that the camelids of South America, including the llama, alpaca, guanaco, and vicuña, arose from Camelops. That completely depends on where you live, but no matter where you are a camel would be nothing more than an interruption. Even though camels would be very low maintenance they make almost constant noise and smell.
