You have to commit to going to school to become a professional chef. Most culinary arts programs will tend to take about 2 to 3 years. In some programs, you can do apprenticeships while you are in school and that will give you hands on application of what you have learned. It's not necessarily hard, but you do have to have the desire to follow through.
