One whole step.
A minor scale begins on the sixth step of its relative major scale. For example, the A minor scale is the relative minor of C major, and it starts on the sixth degree of the C major scale. This relationship allows the minor scale to share the same key signature as its relative major scale.
In a harmonic minor scale, the sixth of the scale is raised, so the step and a half is found between the fifth and sixth of the harmonic minor scale because normally, there is a whole step between the fifth and sixth of a minor scale. Raising the sixth adds another half step, so you get the step and a half.
To turn a major scale to natural minor, lower the third, sixth, and seventh scale tones a half step. To create a natural minor scale from scratch, it is: whole step, half step, whole step, whole step, half step, whole step, whole step. A harmonic minor scale has a seventh raised by a half step above a natural minor scale. A melodic minor scale has a sixth and a seventh raised by a half step above a natural minor scale.

To convert a major key to a minor key, you can lower the third, sixth, and seventh notes of the scale by a half step. This changes the sound from happy and bright to sad and melancholic.
B
To change a song from a major key to a minor key, you need to lower the third, sixth, and seventh notes of the scale by a half step. This will give the song a darker and more melancholic sound characteristic of a minor key.
The sixth of the scale is lowered. For example, in C major, the sixth note is A natural. When this note is lowered it becomes an A flat. The note is generally lowered by a semitone.
