Leu, 1 leu = 100 bani (in Romanian language leu = lion)
The Romanian currency is the leu, pronounced like "let" but with a "oo" sound replacing the t. The plural of one leu is lei, pronounced like "let" but and "ee" sound replacing the t. One leu is separated into 100 "bani", singular form "ban". A few years ago, there was an "old leu." Using it was very complicated, because thousands of old lei were a small amount. Pretty recently, Romania started using a "new leu" which is what Romania uses now. One new leu is equal to 10,000 old lei. One new leu is about .35 U.S. dollars, and one U.S. dollar is about 2.9 new lei.
It is currently the leu, but Romania is expected to switch to the euro in 2014.
