If there is a neck injury, the location of that injury affects different parts of the body. If a person still has control of their arms, no damage has occurred to the upper vertebrae on the neck. There are medical names for each of the vertebrae. If a person broke the vertebrae at the top of their neck, and it severed the spinal cord that person would die. However, if a vertebrae was broken lower down and severs the spinal cord it will cause paralysis, and depending how far down the person could become paralysed in the legs only, or paralysed from the neck down.
